Happy Juneteenth!
June 19th marks the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned that they were free from the institution of slavery. But sadly, the news came almost 2 1/2 years after slavery was abolished when Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
We now stand at a moment in time when the chance to finally overcome racial injustice and discrimination is within our reach. There is a great deal of promise for change if we are committed to this movement.
